Why Organic Cotton?

Why Organic Cotton?

-No nasty chemicals: Organic cotton is grown without pesticides and fertilizers, unlike conventional cotton, which accounts for 11% of all pesticides and 25% of the insecticides used worldwide each year. For instance, it takes roughly a third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to grow enough cotton for just one T-shirt.

Also, the dye process for conventional cotton can be both poisonous and environmentally damaging. Organic cotton only uses low impact, eco-friendly dyes without heavy metals.

Better for human health: Organic farming prevents farmers, their families and the local population in developing countries from being exposed to hazardous chemicals. Pesticides penetrate mostly through your skin, but also through inhalation. Exposure is poisonous for the workers handling the pesticides. These workers die as a result because there aren’t safety regulations. FACT: The World Health Organization estimates that pesticides poison at least three million people every year and 20-40,000 more are killed.

Better for the environment: Organic farming prevents soil erosion, protects air and water quality for plants and animals, and preserves species biodiversity through crop rotation.

Safer product especially for a baby’s sensitive skin: Clothing or toys made from organically grown cotton are free of much of the harmful chemical content present in conventionally grown cotton. Bleaches, formaldehyde, and other chemical finishes are also used in non-organic textile manufacturing. Even after washing a cotton shirt many times, chemical traces remain. It truly makes sense: Why buy things that are harmful to the environment and why would you let your kids wear clothes that are covered in chemicals anyway?

-Baby steps towards a healthy lifestyle: For parents whose babies are plagued by eczema, allergies or extremely sensitive skin issues (I hear you!), it’s not just about giving your baby organic food. It’s also about creating a non-toxic environment and living a healthy, chemical-free lifestyle. And because the skin absorbs 60% of whatever you put on it, it makes perfect sense to choose only the safest, non-toxic materials and ingredients to place on your precious’s skin, isn’t it?

Can you make a difference? The choice is yours.
